Who Needs Speech And Language Therapy?

At Language First we work with children and young adults with a variety of speech, language and communication needs:

  • Speech delay/ disorder
  • Language delay/disorder
  • Apraxia of speech
  • Listening and attention difficulties
  • Dysfluency/stammer
  • Social communication difficulties- including pragmatic language impairment and children with high functioning ASD.

We often have parents or Health Visitors refer children to us because they have not met their communication milestones and they require assessment. We also see many clients whilst they are waiting for their NHS therapy to start and we are very keen that the service we offer is a complimentary one, where we share our findings and assessment results with a child’s NHS therapist.

I Have Concerns About My Child’s Communication, What Should I Do?

Please get in touch to discuss your concerns via our Contact Page or by email languagefirst@outlook.com. We can then arrange to have a phone discussion at a convenient time for you.

What Happens Next?

We will arrange to come and meet you and your child. We prefer to meet your child in their home environment initially as this is where they are most comfortable and natural. After meeting and assessing your child we will decide on the type and duration of therapy that will best meet their needs.

Our Therapy

We offer 30 and 60 minute therapy sessions, depending on many factors, including your child’s age and the severity of their communication difficulty. We are able to see your child at home or in a nursery setting.

Our therapy can be on a 1:1 basis or may involve an approach such as PCI (Parent Child Interaction). In all instances we will fully discuss the intention of each approach we use, and fully feedback after each session.

We will often meet with your child’s nursery staff or early years teachers in order to discuss their needs and offer advice as necessary.
